Research topic

Designing the user experience: reconfiguring social practices in wireless and public spaces

Research abstract

The objective of the research project is to approach the methodological challenges in experience design by developing and testing models for reconfigured social practices within wireless and public spaces in the form of experimental mms-services. The project is interested in identifying those everyday practices that seem to rapidly augment social interactions in mms-messaging, as well as those instances of friction and resistance in using mobile communication, that mark certain socially significant, transitional and affective situations. This boundary work will be enacted within wireless and public spaces and will result in a media installation, in which the mms input from the audience will be accessed through situated, multimodal interactions.
