Research interests

His approach to technology-mediated interaction is based on the view to cognition as explorative activity of the embodied mind immersed in its material and cognitive environment, largely building on the findings of cognitive psychology and systems sciences. He uses low level metadata, or “soft ontologies” and nature-like computational models as his core methodologies. The orientation also accommodates the Mc Luhanian view to technology as extensions of the mind, as well as technology as the environment of mind.

Current projects

Kaipainen has different roles associated with a range of new media research and development projects, associated with interaction concepts (USED, INiCS, Obsession), media art (Obsession) and cognitive ergonomy in public services.
